Chimera Country · Development update

Breed for a route, then watch the run.

The Godot prototype now has a seven-event campaign, readable animal abilities and a separate broken-boardwalk experiment.

Results

Development record, 12 September: 787 campaign checks pass, plus 105 separate checks for the Broken Boardwalk playtest. No new tests were run for this post.

The farm has become a route puzzle

The current Godot direction asks players to breed animals whose anatomy opens routes through short courses. Puddle swims, Rumble breaks gates and Pip climbs.

Their combinations carry visible differences into the maze, the breeding preview and the portraits. The old voxel-farm artwork no longer describes this build.

Three rounded cartoon animals on a pale green background, labelled Puddle (an orange duck on two legs), Rumble (a tan ram with curled horns) and Pip (a green gecko).
The three founders. Puddle, Rumble and Pip as the game draws them. Rendered by the game's animal style check, 12 September.
A grid of 27 small animals in three rows of orange duck bodies, tan ram bodies and green gecko bodies, each labelled with its body, head and feet, such as duck / ram / gecko.
All 27 combinations. Each label reads body / head / feet. Duck feet give two legs on every body; ram and gecko feet give four. Same check, 12 September.

Carry a stable across seven events

The campaign begins with Pond rescue and continues through seven numbered challenges, ending at The Long Way Round. Named adventures preserve animals and progress.

Stamina loss appears through sweat, drooping eyes and a red bar before tired animals release into jointed physics.

A low-poly island course with a yellow duck on the left bank, a pond in the middle and a horned animal labelled Rumble on the far side. Below, the stable holds only Puddle, next to a Run Puddle button.
Pond rescue. The opening: Puddle, the only animal in the stable, sets out across the pond to find Rumble. In-game capture, 12 September.
A course with a tall blue wall. A tan horned animal clings near the top under a small bar marked Tiring, and route buttons for Wall and Gates sit at the left.
Level 5, High Garden. A heavy horned climber tires on the wall, its stamina bar marked Tiring. Frame from the 12 September exhaustion captures; the line at the bottom is the recording's title.
A yellow duck lies on her side in a long blue lake under an empty bar and the word Tired. Shortcut and Long swim route buttons sit at the left.
Level 7, The Long Way Round. Puddle runs out of stamina in the eleven-metre lake and floats. In-game capture, 12 September.

Keep the next mechanic separate

Broken Boardwalk tests four-footed support over a missing plank, with a swimming bypass.

It has its own temporary stable, its 105 checks are counted apart from the campaign's 787, and it is not Level 8.

A yellow duck stands at the edge of a wooden boardwalk with one plank missing above the water. The status line reads Reaching, and Boardwalk and Pond route buttons sit at the left.
Puddle reaches. On two legs she cannot reach the far board, so she stops at the gap; the pond is her way round. Playtest capture, 12 September.
A yellow duck-bodied animal on four dark hooves straddles the gap in the boardwalk, with feet on the boards at both sides. The status line reads Crossing.
Pebble crosses. Pebble, a duck with ram feet, keeps its feet planted on both sides of the missing plank. Playtest capture, 12 September.

What I learned

An inherited body part is more meaningful when the player can see which route it changes. Testing a new ability in an isolated course protects the campaign's existing rules while the mechanic is still uncertain.
